World Humanitarian Day
World Humanitarian Day is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world. It marks the day in which the then UN Special Representative Sergio Vieira de Mello and his 21 colleagues were killed following the bombing in the Canal Hotel in Iraq in 2003.
The UN global campaign this year will heroize humanitarians’ incredible personal stories and it will be a “thank you” to the actual heroes, frontline responders and aid workers that have committed their lives to helping others and that we have seen on the frontlines during the COVID response. If you are interested in or planning to participate in the campaign, please let us know!
