VOICE Director interviewed for Défis Humanitaires

VOICE Director Maria Groenewald was recently interviewed by Alain Boinet for the humanitarian media outlet Défis Humanitaires. The conversation explored some of the key challenges facing the humanitarian sector in Europe and beyond. In the interview, Maria highlighted the alarming decline in humanitarian funding, the growing risks of the politicisation of humanitarian assistance, and the importance of upholding humanitarian principles in an increasingly complex context.

Looking ahead, Maria stressed the importance of the ongoing negotiations on the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034:

“La question clé pour nous porte sur l’enveloppe qui sera attribuée à l’action humanitaire dans ce budget et la capacité future de l’Union européenne à répondre aux crises à la fois prolongées ou soudaines : c’est tout l’enjeu.”
