VOICE Communication Campaign on El Pais - Planeta Futuro

The humanitarian sector is facing unprecedented financial pressure and its consequences are already being felt on the ground.

In a recent feature, El País Planeta Futuro examined how funding cuts are leading to programme closures, job losses, and reduced assistance for millions of people worldwide. The article describes what many humanitarian organisations are currently experiencing: a contraction of resources at a time when global needs are rising sharply.

Across crisis contexts, funding reductions translate into tangible consequences. Health facilities are scaling down operations. Food distributions are being reduced.  The article also references the broader mobilisation of humanitarian organisations to defend the value and effectiveness of principled humanitarian action. In this context, VOICE and its 90+ European humanitarian NGO members have launched the campaign Humanitarian Action Works, aimed at reinforcing public understanding and trust in humanitarian action.

Through real stories from affected communities and frontline responders, the campaign highlights a simple but essential message: humanitarian action delivers concrete results, access to food, healthcare, water, safety, and dignity. It also underlines that underfunding has real and immediate consequences.

At a time when misinformation, scepticism, and political pressure are growing, visible leadership and sustained investment in humanitarian action remain essential.

We thank El País Planeta Futuro for shedding light on the structural challenges facing the humanitarian sector and for contributing to an informed public debate on the importance of protecting and properly resourcing humanitarian action.
