Operationalising The Next HDP Nexus in Fragile States: Insights from Myanmar | VOICE Out Loud #40

The latest issue of the VOICE out loud magazine examines why sustained engagement in fragile contexts is essential, even amid political and financial pressures. Through concrete experiences from humanitarian and development actors, it highlights the human, economic and geopolitical costs of disengagement, and offers practical insights for operationalising the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

In this contribution, CESVI illustrates how the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus can be operationalised through its work in Myanmar following the devastating 2025 earthquake. As Amélie Tapella explains, bridging humanitarian aid, development and peacebuilding remains challenging, despite strong EU commitments. Yet, by combining emergency response, long-term recovery and community led peacebuilding, supported by flexible EU funding mechanisms, this case demonstrates that coordinated, locally driven approaches can deliver real impact, even in highly fragile contexts.
