Interview with Jan Egeland - Eminent Person of The Grand Bargain and Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council - on the VOL 35
In the latest edition of VOICE out loud 35, Jan Egeland, Eminent Person of The Grand Bargain and Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, provides an overview of the current state of the localisation agenda, the harmonisation process, quality funding, and other aspects related to the Grand Bargain.
Jan Egeland acknowledges that the Grand Bargain has yet to fully transform the humanitarian system and that certain goals, such as reaching 25% of humanitarian funding to local and national NGOs, remain distant. However, he highlights the progress made by various actors, including donors, in fulfilling the commitments of the Grand Bargain.
In this interview, he also addresses the challenges that lie ahead, such as complex bureaucracy, legal frameworks, and other processes that hinder the pace of localisation progress. Lastly, he discusses the future of the Grand Bargain following the Annual Meeting in June, which marked the conclusion of the Grand Bargain 2.0, and his successor as the Eminent Person.
