Humanitarian Action Works Campaign: Showcasing the reality of humanitarian assistance

What does humanitarian action really look like, beyond numbers and statistics?

This is what the collective EU-wide campaign “Humanitarian Action Works” showed us. The campaign highlighted, in a clear way, that humanitarian assistance delivers real, tangible impact for people affected by crises – from access to food, healthcare and water, to safety and dignity. Through storytelling and visuals, the campaign aimed to make humanitarian action more visible and understandable. Its message is simple: humanitarian assistance delivers real impact.
The campaign was built around three pillars:

1.    Real People, Real Impact – human stories from affected communities and frontline responders
This pillar brought forward the voices of those affected by crises. We showed lived experiences from contexts such as displacement and conflict, making humanitarian assistance personal.
2.    Humanitarian Action is a Lifeline – Because Every Life Has Equal Worth
Focusing on needs such as food, water, healthcare and protection, this pillar reinforced that fundamental principle humanitarian assistance is about preserving life and dignity, everywhere.
3.    Humanitarian Action Works — and Underfunding Has Consequences

At a time of growing financial constraints, this pillar highlighted the real implications of funding gaps. Through concrete examples, the campaign showed how reduced resources can lead to interrupted services, unmet needs and increased vulnerability for affected populations. This message particularly resonates in the context of ongoing discussions on the EU’s next MFF.
Launched across VOICE channels, notably @Instagram, and its members’ channels, the campaign generated strong engagement and reached wide audiences across Europe. Its impact was amplified through media coverage, including articles in @El Pais and @The Brussels Times, which helped bring its key messages into the public debate. The campaign featured contributions from Commissioner @Hadja Lahbib, and MEPs @Barry Andrews and @Leire Pajin, which further strengthened the visibility of the campaign.
One of the campaign’s strengths was its collective nature. By aligning messages across VOICE members, Humanitarian Action Works demonstrated a coordinated European approach. Thank you to all our members who participated in this campaign.

And thank you to many organisations who have engaged with the campaign!

After three months, the Humanitarian Action Works campaign by VOICE and its members comes to a close. As public understanding shapes political priorities and funding, we must keep the conversation going and ensure humanitarian action remains visible and supported. VOICE will continue to show why humanitarian action works and needs to be supported.
