Dominic Crowley, VOICE President, exchange of views with MEPs at DEVE Committee

In an exchange of views with Members of the European Parliament's Committee on Development (DEVE), Dominic Crowley, VOICE President, presented on Tuesday a critical analysis of the current state of humanitarian funding, the concerning outlook for 2024, and the collective expectations for the European Humanitarian Forum 2024.

Despite the growing needs of vulnerable populations worldwide, there is a widening gap in humanitarian funding. This shortfall is jeopardising the delivery of essential services and the assistance of those in dire need. Dominic Crowley's presentation to the MEPs highlighted the severity of this funding gap and its potential implications on humanitarian operations globally.

Looking towards 2024, the humanitarian outlook is alarmingly grim. The convergence of ongoing conflicts and climate change impacts, among other issues, is expected to escalate the demands on humanitarian assistance. It is a scenario that calls for immediate and concerted action from the international community to prevent further crises.

In light of these challenges, the upcoming European Humanitarian Forum 2024 represents an opportunity for stakeholders to come together. It will be an occasion for the humanitarian community to look towards the forum as a platform to advocate for increased funding commitments, foster collaborative solutions, and strategise on how to address the complex web of challenges that lie ahead.
