VOICE Event "Decolonising Humanitarian Action: Shifting Power, Voices, and Resources"
Colonial legacies and unequal power dynamics have long influenced the humanitarian sector. Increasingly, there are calls to shift power, advance on locally-led humanitarian responses, and reform the humanitarian system.
We warmly invite you to join us for a discussion on what it means to decolonise humanitarian action. This panel will delve into critical issues such as redistributing resources, amplifying locally-led humanitarian responses, and addressing structural inequalities. Beyond policy changes, the conversation will focus on rethinking the stories we tell about the communities we work with, offering new perspectives on how the humanitarian system can better serve its mission.
Join us as we explore:
- Shifting Power Dynamics: What steps are needed to place decision-making in the hands of affected communities and local responders?
- Transforming Narratives: How can the humanitarian sector reshape its narratives to emphasize the resilience and leadership of affected communities?
- Reforming Funding Structures: How can we ensure equitable access to funding for local and national actors?
