Barriers Unveiled: The School I Dream Of
World Vision EU Representation is organising “Barriers Unveiled: The School I Dream Of”, a child-led art exhibition from the West Bank, in partnership with Mundo Matongé. The exhibition will take place on November 18, 2024, from 5 PM onwards at Mundo Matongé, Edinburgstraat 26, 1050 Brussels.
This exhibition will highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Palestinian children in the West Bank, particularly in accessing education amidst the escalating violence and crisis in the region. The exhibition will feature drawings by children aged 6-14, created during World Vision’s Summer Camps. Through their artwork, the children expressed their experiences of disrupted schooling and shared their vision of an ideal school. Our goal is to amplify their voices and emphasise the urgent need for safe, uninterrupted access to education for all children in the West Bank.
Speakers
- Béatrice Miege, Deputy Head of Unit ECHO.C.2 (Middle East and North Africa)
- MEP Abir Al-sahlani, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Development (DEVE)
- MEP Cecilia Strada, Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS)
- A representative of World Vision will also intervene.
Over the past year, children in the West Bank have contended with rising violence, severe movement restrictions, and an economic crisis that has affected all aspects of their lives, including their education. In response, World Vision has provided critical humanitarian assistance to over 150 villages, delivering emergency preparedness materials, mental health and psychosocial support, and constructing safe spaces for children. In partnership with the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), World Vision also supported more than 120 schools with emergency preparedness items like fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and stretchers.
