The Next Long-term EU Budget: A Common Call to the European Council
The European Union's next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), covering the period 2028–2034, will shape how the EU responds to global challenges and supports communities around the world. As discussions on the future budget continue, VOICE, CONCORD and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) are calling on EU leaders to ensure that external action receives at least 10% of the overall EU budget, in line with the European Parliament's position. This investment is essential for tackling poverty and inequality, advancing human rights and gender equality, and ensuring that the EU remains a reliable and principled global partner.
For the humanitarian sector, the next EU budget must provide sustained support to communities affected by crises while strengthening their resilience, in full respect of humanitarian principles. Civil society organisations are indispensable partners in delivering humanitarian assistance and responding to growing needs, and the next MFF must continue to support their work. Together with investments in sustainable development, peacebuilding and conflict prevention, a strong external action budget will help address the root causes of crises and support communities most at risk of being left behind.
To reinforce this common message ahead of the European Council discussions on the next long-term EU budget, VOICE, CONCORD and EPLO released the joint video A Common Call to the European Council. Watch the video on our Instagram profile or our LinkedIn page.
