COP28: VOICE members' engagement
COP28, the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December.
For the first time, at COP 28, there is a platform dedicated to the humanitarian community, the “Humanitarian Hub”, that will host more than 40 events with the objective of showcasing how climate-related disasters affect people in crisis situations and solutions especially at the local level.
As stated in the VOICE Position Paper “The humanitarian NGOs’ perspective on climate resilience”, climate change and environmental degradation have become primary root causes of humanitarian crises around the world, generating food insecurity, water shortages, displacement and threatening livelihoods. Climate change acts as a “threat multiplier” that amplifies existing risks and inequalities in already fragile contexts. This is why the connection between humanitarian and climate is more relevant than ever and it is imperative that a space for humanitarians is in place so they can have their say on the devastating consequences of climate-related disasters.
On this occasion, several VOICE members are active to make sure the voice of humanitarian NGOs is heard in the discussions. Please, find below a list of VOICE members’ statements and events around the COP28:
