Maria Groenewald
Director
Maria Groenewald is the Director of VOICE, since November 2021. With 20 years of experience in the NGO sector, Maria has extensive leadership, advocacy and project management skills in both the humanitarian and development fields. As the VOICE Director, she plays a critical role in voicing humanitarian concerns in the European Union.
Having studied Political Science, Communication Science, and Sociology in Germany and France, Maria started her career working for the German VOICE member The Johanniter International Assistance where she gained a lot of operational experiences, e. g. in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Chad or Djibouti. After that, Maria joined another VOICE member, Plan International Germany, where she stayed for more than ten years in different roles, e. g. being responsible for the humanitarian and development programme in Asia. Before joining VOICE, Maria was Plan Germany’s Senior Resource Mobilisation Manager for DG ECHO and DEVCO (now INTPA).
Since she joined the VOICE Secretariat in 2021, she has put her leadership and extensive programming, nexus, advocacy and business development expertise to the service of the VOICE network in Brussels.
