Public Consultation: Evaluation of the EU rules on combating terrorism
This public consultation, organised by the Commission, is an initiative to evaluate the EU rules on combating terrorism, by gathering the necessary evidence from citizens and stakeholders to inform the evaluation of Directive (EU) 2017/541.
Entered into force on 20 April 2017, this Directive establishes harmonised rules and minimum rules to better combat terrorism. After 3 years of application, the Commission undertakes this evaluation to assess the added value of the Directive, and whether it is fit for purpose.
Next to the added value of the Directive, the assessment shall also cover its impact on fundamental rights and freedoms, including on non-discrimination, on the rule of law, and on the level of protection and assistance provided to victims of terrorism. The evaluation of the Directive will also address its relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, coherence and European added value.
Following the consultation, a report will be presented to the European Parliament and to the Council by 8 September 2021.
