Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU

July 2024 marked the beginning of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is part of the Trio composed of Spain, Belgium, and Hungary. Hungary has outlined its priorities for humanitarian aid in the Hungarian Presidency’s work programme for COHAFA, the Council’s working group on Humanitarian aid and food aid.

Five areas have been identified as strategic priority themes:

  1. Forgotten crises
  2. Education in emergencies
  3. Global food security
  4. Promoting localisation in humanitarian aid, including faith-based organisations
  5. Anticipatory Action

Hungary will hold the presidency until 31 December 2024. The VOICE Secretariat is already in contact with the COHAFA delegates and will ensure that VOICE’s priorities are put forward at the Council level.
