BREAKING SILOS FOR RESILIENT COMMUNITIES: Water, Food Security and Health in the climate crisis

Co-organised by Gesunde Erde – Gesunde Menschen („Healthy Planet – Healthy People“), WaterAid, the German WASH-Network, and Welthungerhilfe.

When: June 11th, 2024
Where: Large Conference Room at Welthungerhilfe, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 1, 53173 Bonn

The implementation of the rights to adequate food and to clean and safe water are fundamental for health and wellbeing – for everyone, everywhere, without exception. The effects of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution are now and, in the years to come, threatening global food, nutrition security, public health, and the access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

As we strive to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, adaptation is imperative. Yet, progress remains too slow, adaptation finance is lacking, and the efforts of most stakeholders are often siloed. During the United Nations technical climate talks in Bonn, delegations will prepare for the Climate Conference in Azerbaijan this December (COP29), and nine years after the Paris Agreement, Member States are on the verge of negotiating indicators for the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA). Climate-resilient WASH, food and nutrition security, and health impacts are at the top of GGA's targets. The time for action is now.

Speakers will include:

  • Adnan Ibne Abdul Qader, Climate and Water Governance Specialist, WaterAid, Bangladesh
  • Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen, Founder, Stiftung Gesunde Erde - Gesunde Menschen
